Medical dermatology
Your skin is one of your priceless possessions. It protects you from temperature
extremes, keeps your blood chemistry in line, allows you to interact with your
environment via touch, and may be a “window” to the health of your other organs.
It is also the major way the world recognizes you. There are many procedures and
topical therapies that may help you put “your best face forward.” The best way,
however, is via prevention. The majority of signs that we associate with aging
are from excess sun exposure. These include spots, freckles, wrinkles, and
redness. Many of these changes can be addressed with laser, topical medications
or chemical peels.
The most effective cosmetic cream in the world today is sunscreen. Most of us
need an SPF (sun protective factor) of at least 25. This allows us to block UVA
rays which penetrate through window glass, fog and clouds. Wearing a special UVA
blocking sunscreen or a high SPF sunscreen (>25) daily is an easy and
inexpensive way to protect your skin. However, hats, long sleeves, sunglasses
and gloves are also important.
Some of the changes that we notice on our face are age related. As we celebrate
more birthdays, we lose some of the bone and fat that kept our faces looking
youthful. Some of these changes will need surgical intervention to correct, but
a number of them can be addressed with fillers or Botox®.
We at Yellowstone Dermatology would like to help you keep your skin as healthy
as possible. Please stop by or give us a call at 238-6120 to start investigating
